Undergraduate Student Co-op and Internship Award Winners

During my internship at NCR as a Software Engineering Intern, I was entrusted with leading a critical project aimed at developing a sophisticated data pipeline for a fictional national store chain. Working closely with and under the guidance of my manager, Todd Kaplinger, I dived deep into the realm of data engineering, tasked with designing, implementing, and optimizing a robust pipeline capable of generating a comprehensive catalog of items and prices across multiple store outlets nationwide. This endeavor required not only technical prowess but also effective communication, delegation, and problem-solving skills as I navigated the complexities of managing a team and overcoming unexpected challenges.

One significant realization during the project was the necessity of adaptability in the face of evolving requirements and technical constraints. When confronted with the challenge of processing large volumes of data efficiently, traditional synchronous methods proved inadequate. In response, I spearheaded the adoption of asynchronous processing techniques, leveraging lambda functions and asynchronous servers to enhance the speed and scalability of our pipeline.

Throughout the project, my focus was on delivering tangible results while maintaining a keen eye on project timelines and objectives. By effectively managing tasks, defining clear roles and responsibilities, and fostering a culture of ownership within the team, we were able to not only meet but exceed project milestones within the agreed-upon timeframe. This success not only demonstrated our technical prowess but also showcased our ability to adapt and innovate in dynamic environments.
