Eligibility Requirements
All Atlanta campus Georgia Tech graduate students are eligible and encouraged to register for the Graduate Internship Program.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be in good academic standing at the Institutional, and program level
- Have completed one academic semester at the graduate level (students admitted to 5-year BS/MS programs are the only exception for their summer internship between BS and MS)
- Have at least one semester remaining before graduation
- Internship experience must be related to the program of study and be approved by the graduate program
- Students cannot complete full-time internships during their graduating semester, except for those who have practicum courses. Part-time is possible.
- Additional Guidelines for International Students:
- F-1 visa holders must complete two semesters (Fall and Spring) before interning at the graduate level.
- F-1 and J-1 visa holders must have work authorization approved by the Office of International Education

09-May-2025 – Deadline for F-1 Students to submit their Internship placement form
16-May-2025 – Deadline for domestic students to submit their Internship placement form
05-May-2025 – Earliest date F-1 Students may begin work
12-May-2025 – Summer classes begin – first day of Summer work term
31-July-2025 – Last day of work for Summer 2025 Degree Candidates
15-Aug-2025 – Last day of work for Summer 2025
31-July-2025 – END OF SUMMER TERM
How to Submit a Placement Form for Approval
Step 1:
Complete the Experiential Learning Application (if already completed, please follow directions in Step 2.)

- Login to CareerBuzz
- From the menu on the left side of the Home page select “Resources”
- Under Gain Access to Co-Op & Internships, “SET APPLICANT TYPE.“
- Once your Experiential Learning application is approved, please follow the directions in Step 2.
NOTE: It usually takes 2 business days to approve after the orientation.
Step 2:
Enter placement info in CareerBuzz:

- Login to CareerBuzz
- From the menu on the left side of the Home page select “Experiential Learning”
- Click on “Add New”
- Watch the embedded Experiential Learning video
- Complete the placement form available after you watch the video.
Necessary Documentations:
1. Obtain a written offer letter from your prospective co-op/internship employer. (Download Sample Offer Letter (Adobe PDF file)

2. Obtain a signed approval from your department using the advisor approval form.

Upload BOTH the offer letter and advisor approval form in CareerBuzz
NOTE: Applications in CareerBuzz will NOT be approved without both forms.

The review process takes place during Phase I and Phase II of each semester, similar to all other course registration. Should we have any questions or concerns about your placement, you will receive information through CareerBuzz.

INTN Course Registration Insights
Welcome to the registration process!
We’re excited to assist you in securing your spot for the upcoming term. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, we’ll coordinate directly with the Registrar’s Office to finalize your registration. This means you can focus on preparing for your classes while we handle the administrative details. Sending registration details will be conducted on a weekly basis after we start approving forms.
Note: Your course is not added automatically, however our office ensures you are registered by facilitating the registration process for you.
We would like to inform you about an important aspect of your course registration process related to your working hours. The total number of hours you work will play a crucial role in determining which course you will be registered in.
Below is a working conversion chart so you know exactly how many hours we will register for:
Working Hours Per Week Registered
6 – 9 hours per week INTN 6003: 3 Audit Hours
10 – 15 hours per week INTN 6004: 4 Audit Hours
16 – 20 hours per week INTN 6006: 6 Audits Hours
21 -31 hours per week INTN 6009: 9 Audit Hours
32 – 40 hours per week INTN 6012: 12 Audit Hours
Part/Full-Time Breakdown:
Domestic Students (For US Citizens and Permanent Residents)
Full-time Work: 32‒40 hours per week
Part-time Work: 6‒31 hours per week
International Students (This is a federal policy and not a Career Center Policy)
Full-time Work: 32‒40 hours per week
CPT’s Full-time: 21-40 hours per (Please see OIE)
Part-time Work: 6‒20 hours per week
Please note: Visa-holders must maintain 12 hours of enrollment during fall and spring semesters. This means if you are enrolled in course the following courses you will need to register for additional course to maintain student status: INTN 6003, INTN 6004, INTN 6006, INTN 6009

International Students
International Master’s and Ph.D. students in F-1 status are eligible to work legally in the United States under Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT).
NEW PROCESS: After your Graduate Internship has been approved. You will screenshot your approval email and submit your information to the Office of International Education (OIE) to start the process for CPT/OPT approval.
- OIE processing times are available online HERE
- OIE will send you an e-mail when your updated I-20 is ready
- You must have your updated I-20 before starting work
